Galván Harbor

The Galván Harbor was developed at the beginning of last century as a cereal terminal for the Pacific Railroad. Today its operations have spread.

Among its facilities, there is a specialized terminal for cereals and by-products operated by Oleaginosa Moreno Hnos S.A., who modified its shipping site joining Sites 2 and 3, thus having more length and depth (38' to the local zero).

The area for general goods are Sites 5 and 6. The former allows ships of 230 m long. On this site, there are two 35-ton electric cranes, for working with hooks, automatic clamps for bulk and container loading.

For isolating hazardous shipments from the rest of the harbor facilities, at the west end of Galván Harbor, a dock for flammables with two mooring sites has been built. Site Nº 1, for the operation of liquid fuel coming from oil companies and caustic soda produced by INDUPA S.A., and site Nº 2 for operating with gas and petrochemical products coming from the companies located at the petrochemical complex and from Southern Gas Carrier. Both sites are equipped with fuel loading arms for quick and safe operation.

The harbor also has other docks, sites 1, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, which due to their length, depth and location cannot develop goods handling operations, but they are used as anchoring sites for service vessels.

All the sites at the harbor have potable water and firefighting water utilities, connected to a network pressurized by pumping and supplied by tanks totalling 1,050 m3 capacity.

Between site Nº 1 and the access road to the Flammable Dock there is a floating petrochemical plant owned by Polisur S.A., devoted to the production of high and low density polyethylene.

On Picture N° 2, the physical features of the Galván Harbor Facilities are shown.
