The Bahía Blanca Port Consortium is a public organization not funded by the State.
It was created by Law No. 11.414 of the Buenos Aires Province Congress, thus complying with the provisions set forth in article 12 of Harbor Activity Act No. 24.093, enforced by the National Congress.
Since September 1st, 1993 the Port Consortium is in charge of the administration and exploitation of the Bahía Blanca harbor complex.
In fact, it became the first independent harbor in Argentina, under the National Government's umbrella of privatizations and transfers of all the Argentine harbor systems, which had belonged to the State for decades.
The Board of Directors has nine appointed members representing several sectors concerned with the harbor operation and development.
The current board is as follows:
- 1 member representing the Buenos Aires Province Government, hence being the Chairman.
- 1 member representing the Bahía Blanca Municipality.
- 2 members representing the Union Associations.
- 1 member representing the companies rendering harbor, maritime and navigation support services.
- 1 member representing the harbor concessionaires and licensees.
- 1 member representing the ship owners and maritime agencies.
- 1 member representing the primary producers of goods.
- 1 member representing the sectors marketing the goods.
